History

In 1976, a small group of African American alumni decided to organize a reunion of black graduates. The idea for the event grew because alumni recognized the need to continue to influence University programs and policies and to be involved in the lives of its students. This group of committed alumni coordinated an annual event, which is now known as the University of Michigan Annual Reunion of Black Graduates and is the Council's largest event.

As a result of the reunion, African American alumni developed additional initiatives. The African American Alumni Council (AAAC) was officially incorporated as an affiliate member of the U-M Alumni Association in 1994.
